Drawbacks of Online MBA

The popularity of online MBA programs has been increasing as one can earn degree qualifications while maintaining the social life and personal network in a very flexible manner. However, there are also some drawbacks of the online learning.

The primary drawback of an online MBA is the need for self-discipline and proper time management. Those who pursue the programs have to be willing and able to take control of the learning process to thrive in an online learning environment. Without self control, there is high possibility for you to delay the learning process as the venue of learning is "too comfortable". Besides, it also involves the ability to set and keep your own schedule as well as the ability to follow through. It is no point to set a tight schedule but it can't be achieved.

Secondly, some people may find that they don't have the degree of spontaneity as they do have in the classroom. They may delay their lessons and drag in submitting assignments. Furthermore, some people are unwilling to participate in the online classroom discussion. As a result, it is harder for them to achieve optimum result through online learning.

In addition, some people prefer face-to-face interaction with their lecturers at campus. They find it hard to communicate with their lecturers through emails or messengers when they encounter problems in their studies. The progress of study is relatively slow when they don't have sufficient understanding on their lessons, especially in going through case studies.

For those who are computer illiterate, study online seems to be a hard task to them. They may face difficulties when they need to perform some tasks such as downloading course materials, doing researches online, finding information from virtual library, submitting assignments, checking emails, etc.

Last but not the least; the true fact is e-learning can’t be “independent”. In fact, the most ideal learning style is the BLENDED LEARNING where you can study online to obtain necessary knowledge but you definitely need to attend workshops to enhance your COMPETENCY level.
